LECTURE Four READINGS 0 Read chapter 9 (pages 192-217) and chapter 10 in the textbook. Module Purpose This module focuses on dealing with fallacious reasoning. As you try to persuade another person to "think the
way you do," hopefillly you will use reason. However, the limitations and imperfections of our thinking at times
cause us to create errors in our logic. Identifying logical reasoning errors in others' and especially your own
thinking is an integrala€”some say the pivotala€”e1ement in the critical thinking process. Becoming aware of when
you use fallacies and how to correct them will rmke you be a better and more sincere comrrmnicator. Recognizing when fallacies are used to persuade you will help you be a more informed buyer, voter, student,
fi'iend, and thinker. The course text, as well as the supplemental readings, describe and discuss various logical reasoning fallacies.
You will read about fillacies such as hasty generalimtions, attacking the person, false dilemmas, false analogies,
appeal to authority, bandwagon, and many more. Read through them, and then see if you can spot fillacies in
your thinking and interactions.
