How do other images and symbols in the poem also contribute to conveying the idea of the search for belonging and history, while revealing the thoughts of a colonized mind? Methedology: Through a close analysis of When the Tom Tom Beats… by Jaques Roumain, and with references to cited documents that include perspectives of the translator of the poem;
