MKG 635 Yongxi Xue Speaker: Jim Micklos Mr. Jim Micklos gave us a very impressive speech on motivation tonight, and he integrated the leadership and incentive, recognition and performance improvement programs together to explain that all these strategies are powerful tools that should operate on and reinforce key principles of effective leadership: setting clear expectations, making expectations credible, rewards following positive performance or improvement and compelling consequences following poor performance. Some of the key topics mentioned in this lecture are: 1) differences between incentive and recognition programs, 2) benefits of comprehensive performance improvement systems, 3) key elements of successful programs, 4) cash vs. non-cash awards, and 5) common mistakes. In the first part of the lecture, Mr. Jim Micklos explained the difference of incentive and recognition in a very easy and direct way. He used charts that showing typical performance distribution within a participant base to demonstrate differences
