Discussion Question #1: What caused the Mann Gulch tragedy: Examining this case on an organizational level, what effect did the smoke jumpers personality, training, and policies have on their reaction to the fire? The lack of communication between Dodge and other inexperienced jumpers caused the tragedy. Those young and inexperienced jumpers had not been trained in real situation, and they were overconfident that they think the fire could be quelled easily. At the same time, Dodge as the leader did not communicate with other team members effectively so that he could not build credibility in advance, and the team would be lack of coordination when facing emergencies. Discussion Question #2: What caused the Mann Gulch tragedy: Examining this case on a group level, what is the role of experience in this tragedy? What impact did the structure of their team have on the outcome? Experience played a very important role in this case.
