SEXUAL HARASSMENT 1 Sexual Harassment A lawsuit was filed against a South Hampton, New York, commercial laundry service citing sexual harassment. It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that person’s sex. Harassment can include “sexual harassment” or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, or physical harassment of a sexual nature. Harassment also includes offensive remarks. I found the story about this lawsuit in the Newsday newspaper in Long Island New York. http://www.newsday.com/long-island/suffolk/hamptons-laundry-faces-sex-harass-suit- 1.3490440 . The lawsuit was filed against Suffolk Laundry Service Inc. because one of its male managers, Rajindra Singh, "over the course of several years . . . regularly touched women on their buttocks, hips, backs, forcibly kissed them and made comments about their appearance and body parts." The complaints state that Singh’s actions have taken place since 2008. However, the attorney for the laundry, Richard Howard Breitstone of Mineola , says, "We do not believe that sexual harassment took place. . . . Until we see the complaint we can't say much more." The EEOC then filed an additional complaint that stated, "that after discrimination charges were filed with the EEOC, Suffolk Laundry continued to permit the manager to remain in his position of authority and retaliated against women who complained by terminating them, reducing their work hours and/or altering their work
