NEWBERY AWARD WINNER BOOK SHILOH 1 Newbery Award Winner Book Shiloh The Newbery Award Winner book I chose was Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. This book is one of my daughter’s favorite books that she read in school. There are a total of three books to the series. The other books are Shiloh Season and Saving Shiloh. The Main Characters of Shiloh are Marty Preston, Shiloh, and Judd Travers. Marty Preston is and 11-year-old boy who lives in Friendly, West Virginia, along with his Mother and father and two younger sisters Dara Lynn and Becky. He loves animals and nature. Judd Travers is a hunter and is mean, untruthful, and thoughtless man. He thinks he doesn’t have to follow the law, and he abuses his dogs by kicking them and not feeding them when they do wrong. Shiloh is the newest of Judd’s dogs, and he is a beagle who runs off when they go hunting. Marty goes for a long walk in the woods and finds a beagle just wandering. The beagle follows Marty home and names the beagle. Marty’s father makes him take Shiloh back to Judd Travers, the owner of Shiloh. At the end of the week Shiloh runs off and comes to Marty’s house.
