ANNOUNCEMENTS I'm going to try to do this course as much as possible online. You will have constant access to the study material and the lecture slides electronically. Those who have not used bSpace before will need to get to it, because I will post everything there, including the syllabus. There are two mandatory lectures every week . There is a lot of material that cannot be posted online. For example, we use a lot of video material that is copyrighted in particular ways. Lecture slides will not be made available before the actual lecture. You'll get them 24 hours after I present in class. The course will also be podcast , but it will not be video-cast. There are also section meetings . If you are enrolled in the lecture, but not a section, then you are not in the course. The first thing you should do is go to Telebears and find an open section. If you don't get into a section, you will be dropped. If you want to change sections, be wary. Most sections are full. The sections meet next week , not this week, in the Hearst Gym , Room 20 . You will need to be there on time, because there will be weekly quizzes at the beginning of class that are a part of your grade. You need to bring a blue book to your section next week. You'll put your answers in one of these each week, and you'll get it back each time for a complete record of the semester. If you're a DSP student , you need to contact me so we can make arrangements for you. Julie Hui is the Head GSI for this course: she will be the troubleshooter, especially if you are having problems with bSpace. Her email is [email protected] The final exam is on May 10 , from 3:00-6:00 pm . If you have an urgent reason to leave Berkeley early and that exam time doesn't work for you, find another class. Juggling people in a 500 person class is a nightmare, and I'm not going to do it. Make sure you can take the course based on the final, midterm, and quizzes. Adjust your schedule if necessary, or drop the class. Our midterm is on the Thursday before spring break, on March 22 . We will allow your lowest quiz score to be dropped from your overall grade. If you're sick or you don't make it to section one day, then you get a free ride on that particular day only . We don't have it set up so that you can miss three or four sections and get away with it. The next piece of business is textbooks.
