Question 1: Locate an example of a for-profit corporation engaged in a specific act of social responsibility, that is, an act which “protect[s] and improve[s] the resulting welfare of society as a whole” or which makes a “positive contribution to human betterment.” Describe the act and explain how it meets this definition. A corporation that comes to mind is Whole Foods. Whole Foods has one social responsibility awards for several years now. They do their best to pay a living wage, which in the grocery industry is unheard of. Whole Foods does many things for the betterment of society as a whole, but the one thing that I feel they do the best is their focus on customer service. This is a major focus of mine, and huge pet peeve. Many companies do not focus on customer service, this is a major problem. Bad customer service can affect everything, from how a customer feels the rest of the day, to how successful a business is. Yes retail jobs can be terrible, but they do not need to be. Whole Foods makes sure that their employees are happy, by offering living wages, and benefits, even for part timers. Happy employees treat customers better; it is just a simple fact. This is from Whole Foods website, their customer service policy “Extraordinary Customer Service We go to extraordinary lengths to satisfy and delight our customers. We want to meet or exceed their expectations on every shopping trip. We know that by doing so we turn customers into advocates for our business. Advocates do more than shop with us; they
