This is a situation that must be treated gently. Someone that is an alcoholic can sue if they are terminated without proper protocol. As Jane was a good worker beforehand she can be again. She may be having a hard time in her life. We need to get to the bottom of this. I have a proposed plan of action that will involve a several step process that will end with the termination of the employee in question if they do not follow the guidelines. The first step in the plan of action is to have a sit down with Jane. If her supervisor has not said anything to her yet, an unofficial spoken warning is required. Once this step has been followed than we will move to written action, an official written warning will take place. The second step will be a written warning, plus possible suspension. We have a solid EAP program and would like to get Jane into a rehab or counseling program to help her with her problem. As Jane’s supervisor does not appear to have really mentioned the problem to her and seems to have a short temper regarding her actions, this will be done by HRM, although we will do this differently should we encounter this issue again.
