Week Four DQ 1 According to p. 62 (Ch. 3), how does the textbook define stress? What are some common stressors? What are some strategies for coping with stress? According to the test book, stress can be good or bad for us; it defines it as “the experience of a perceived threat (real or imagined) to one’s well-being, resulting from a series of physiological responses and adaptations”. I knew stress was bad for us, but I did not know that it could result in a long term severe difficulties or even death. Common stressors can be quite tedious; the smallest thing can trigger it, like being late for work, getting stuck in traffic, financial problems, academic difficulties, getting married, starting a new job. I do not think we can stop the body’s automatic physiological reaction to stress; the next best thing is to learn to anticipate the causes and the reactions to the stressors. It is a good idea to identify the daily stressors and avoid them as much as possible by keeping them under control and dealing with them positively. David, I agree with you, it is very important to be deal with our stress to keep under control and releasing the built up pressures, a great way is to share to the stressors with friends and family to help you identify the best method to alleviate the stress we experience. Of course we can get rid off most of our stress by following a physical activity routine on a regular basis. Adam, I agree with you there, one of the best way to deal with our daily stress related events is to keep a regular schedule of physical activity, one good recommendation is yoga classes, since they can help us stretch, meditate, teach us breathing techniques, and help us to relax. All of these are great ways to relieve the built up extras energy in our body from stress....
