Week Seven DQ 5 Refer to p. 398 and review the information under the heading, Possible Causes: What’s Your Risk? What are some of the possible causes associated with the high rate of Sexually Transmitted Infections? Our text book says that there are several reasons that explain the present rate of STIs. The first one has to do with the moral and social stigma associated with these infections. People feel ashamed and embarrassed so they don't go get treatment. Most of these people continue to be sexually active which infects more people. Another thing that happens is people who are uncomfortable with talking about sexual issues don't feel comfortable about asking their partner if they can use a condom or what type of birth control or protection they are using. Another reason is our culture's casual attitude about sex. It says in our book that people are bombarded by media hype that glamorizes easy sex and that many people take sexual partners without considering the consequences. The more partners a person has makes the risk higher
