Tragedy Essay Outline Thesis: The film American Beauty highlights Aristotle’s elements of a tragedy better than any other story because it is modern, original, and true to life, so viewers can understand the movie better and connect better with the main character. Plot: Reversal of the Situation: During the entire film, Lester Burnham is sexually attracted to his daughter’s friend, Angela. However, the reversal if the situation occurs when she is offering herself to him, and admits that she is a virgin. Then, he decides he no longer wants to have sex with her because she is innocent. Recognition: Throughout the film, Lester Burnham’s character was an unhappy man who had a flawed marriage. He had discovered that his wife was cheating on him, and his daughter felt no connection with him and didn’t want to talk to him. The point of recognition for Lester comes when Angela asks him how he is feeling. He stops to think about it for a moment, then responds with, “Great.” He recognizes that his life may have
