1.
Gifford Pinchot – One of the first professional foresters, he believed that
nature is a resource that needs to be used, but used wisely. Supported
efficiency, rational management of forests, and the idea of conservation
towards nature.
2.
John Muir – Both a philosopher as well as an author, he believed that
nature is sacred, and thought of it as a source of renewal and strength. He
differed from Pinchot in that he believed in a preservation approach to
nature, where no resources should be taken from nature, but it should be
kept the way it is.
3.
Bernard Fernow – Pinchot’s mentor, one of the first foresters. Essentially
created the schism between the conservationists and the preservationists
when he got Pinchot interested in the idea of conservationism rather than
preservationism.
