Lauren Taranow 3-10-10 Period 4 Election 2000: Questions: 1) Why are more people not concerned with the unconstitutionality of the outcome of the election in 2000, and why wasn't a recount possible? 2) Why are people angry with Nader for ruining the outcome of the election, if he hast the right to run? Quotes: 1) "'Having once granted the right to vote on equal terms,' the court declared, 'the state may not, by later arbitrary and disparate treatment, value one person's vote over that of another.'" 2) "Liberal Democrats today angrily threatened retribution against Ralph Nader and his Green Party allies if Vice President Al Gore was declared the loser in the too-close-to-call presidential election." Talking Points: 1) People shouldn't be focusing their anger on Ralph Nader for Al Gore losing; they should have focused on getting a recount. 2) The Bush v. Gore argument should be ignored now, because it won’t change anything if it is solved ten years later. 3) Mr. Nader was not wrong to run in the presidential election, because he wanted to continue to spread the ideals of the Green Party. Election 2004: Questions: 1) How did people find out the typical people classified as swing voters and how do they know this is accurate? 2) Do parties attempt to appeal specifically to these "swing voters"
