COMMUNICATION AND PERSONALITY IN NEGOTIATION PAPER 2 Communication and Personality in Negotiation Paper As part of the first week of class students are required to write an essay on a personal negotiation situation in which they have participated in, rather it is a sale or purchase of a house, car, or salary. In this essay, students are required to analyze the roles of communication and personality in their negotiation situation. Negotiation is “the act or process of conferring or discussing to reach agreement in matters of business or state,” (Negotiation, 2011). Each person throughout life has dealt with a negotiation situation in some way. This situation could be a personal situation such as a lower price on a vehicle they are trying to purchase or a raise in salary they receive from their job. However, according to (Walters, 2007), “tough negotiation talents are required to be successful in life.” Negotiation Situation As I have stated in our first discussion question for this class, the most recent negotiation I have participated in was a negotiation between my internet provider and a bill I received from them where I was over charged for my services I receive from that company. The background of this situation was that I received a bill for 120.00 from my internet provider when I should of only been billed for 30.00 at the most, because when I signed up for my services through this company they promised me six months free internet service. So I called the customer service department and told them what my issue was, explaining the details of my sign on agreement with them, and this lady told me all she could do was give me a reoccurring credit of 10.00 off each bill for a year, and that is all she could do. Therefore, I asked to speak to her supervisor. A few seconds later, her supervisor came on the line, and asked what he could do for me today. I explained my situation to him and he said, “I understand your frustration, but I cannot do much more for you other then give you a 25.00 additional credit to help you out.” I could not believe
