MGT/498 – Strategic Management University of Phoenix Professor:  TUGTEKIN GOKAYDIN Katie Williams 12/16/2011 Week 3 – Assignments Discussion Question #2 : "Portfolio Analysis" What is portfolio analysis and what are the benefits of this analysis to a business? Well to tell you the truth I never heard of a portfolio analysis untill today. So this one was  new for me. After reading our textbook chapters this week, I can tell you what our textbook has  to say about what portfolio anaylsis is, and what the benefits of this analysis is to a business.  its product lines and business units as a series of investments from which it exspects a profitable  return." From what I understand from our textbook the benefits of this analysis in general are  great in fact our textbook lists many on page 225. I am only going to choose two to disucss.

Unformatted text preview: According to (Wheelen, & Hunger 2010, p. 225), One of these benefits for portfolio analysis is that it, "encourages top management to evaluate each of the corporation's businesses individually and to set objectives and allocate resources for each." The next benefit I would like to mention is, "Oy raises the issue of cash-flow avaliablity for use in expansioon and growth." Personally, I think both of these examples are excellent benefits to any business.
