MGT/498 – Strategic Management University of Phoenix Professor:  TUGTEKIN GOKAYDIN Katie Williams 12/17/2011 Week 3 – Assignments Discussion Question #4 What is outsourcing and how does it differ from off-shoring? Well from what I understand from past knowledge and our textbook readings for this week, these two terms run together so to speak. However, in order for us to understand the differences between these two terms we must first understand the meaning of each term. According to (Wheelen, & Hunger, 2010, p. 247), "Outsourcing is purchasing from someone else a product or service that had been previously been provided internally." From what I understand outsourcing has become an important part of businesses strategic decision making over the years. It helps the business to increase their efficiency and even their quality. Know that we know the meaning of outsourcing let us move onto finding out exactly what off-shoring means. According to (Wheelen, & Hunger, 2010, p. 248), "off-shoring is the outsourcing of an
