When top management of an organization is setting up a control system, they should remember that the controls should always follow strategy. There are many guidelines for proper control however; (Wheelen & Hunger, 2010, p. 351), state that a company should follow these six guidelines: Control should involve only the minimum amount of information needed to give a reliable picture of events. Controls should monitor only meaningful activities and results, regardless of measurement difficulty. Controls should be timely so that corrective action can take place before it is to late.
