Arko Dewri Period 4 Biology 9H 2/8/2010 Chapter 2 Vocabulary 2.1 1. Abiotic factor – Any non-living factor in an organism’s environment, such as soil, water temperature, and light availability. 2. Biological community – All the interacting populations of different species that live in the same geographic location at the same time. 3. Biome – Large group of ecosystems that share the same climate and have similar types of communities. 4. Biosphere – Relatively thin layer of Earth and is atmosphere that supports life. 5. Biotic factor – Any living factor in an organism’s environment. 6. Commensalism – Symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits and the other organism is neither helped nor harmed. 7. Ecology – Scientific study of all the interrelationships between organisms and their environment. 8. Ecosystem – Biological community and all the nonliving factors that affect it. 9.
