MAYCOMB COUNTY – STREET – NIGHT JEM AND SCOUT ARE WALKING ON THE WAY BACK TO HOME AFTER THE PAGAENT. SCOUT Jem, I forgot my shoes. They’re back behind the stage. JEM Okay. Then, let’s go get ’em. (Turning back) Well, the lights are out. You can get ’em tomorrow. SCOUT (Frustrated) But tomorrow’s Sunday. I wanna get it now, Jem. JEM Be patient, Scout. Maybe, you can ask the janitor to let you in. SCOUT Huh? JEM Nothin’. SCOUT Jem, you don’t hafta – JEM (Interrupting Scout and staring back) Hush up, Scout. SCOUT What’s the matter, Jem? Whatcha thinkin’? JEM I think I heard something.
