Halle Woodfin Robotic Surgery CSC101, Section 899 A New Kind of Surgeon In today’s operating rooms, you’ll find many people. Usually two or three surgeons are present, with an anesthesiologist, and several nurses. Robots in the operating room have eliminated the need for so many people to be present. Robotic surgery is a technique in which the surgeon sits at a computer console and controls the robot. What is even more amazing is the surgeon doesn’t even have to be in the same room where the surgery is taking place. A wide range of procedures are now starting to be performed by using robots. Surgeries that were once performed as open surgeries can now be performed with just a small incision. Surgical robotics is a new technology that holds much promise. Robotic surgery can often be said to be the new revolution, and it is one of the most talked about subjects in surgery today. The first recorded robot assisted surgical procedure took place in 1985 performing traditional laparoscopic surgery. In 2000 the da Vinci surgery system broke new ground when being the first
