Happiness Hypothesis: Elephant is the part of our mind that is the automatic responses to things – emotional etc. Chapter 2: More information about the elephant (automatic unconscious part of the mind) 1. By being a wise sage than that’s what really matters – having virtue & all the other things is trivial by comparison c. Happiness is what you deem it c.i. Questionable? 2. Dr. Phil’s perception of life: a. All the problems in life can be solved if thought about in the right way b. Looking through life in an optimistic standpoint c. Not enough to appeal to the writer (conscious) you also have to train the elephant 3. Stoic claims: a. Whats good for you is happiness, but what really makes a happy life/ good life is a viture b. Happiness= virtue ( not necessarily pleasure) b.i. Virtue all depends on wisdom, and true wisdom is enough to achieve
