May 2007 - In1916 Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG was founded in Munich by Franz Josef Popp and Max Friz. Soon the name was changed to Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (Bavarian Motor Works) or BMW. - Later 29 world records in aviation were set with aircrafts using BMW engines. - The R 32, was the first BMW motorcycle launched in 1923. The Dixi 3/15 PS. - In 1929 a new improved version was launched. - By 1931 BMW had sold 25 000 Dixi units, saving BMW from the world depression after October 1929. - In 1930 the Dixi won the International Alpine Rally.
