When the position light is switched on, all 4 corona rings are equally bright = daytime running light. (With the standard feature “Halogen light”, the daytime running light is generated by a weaker form of the high beam light.) Technology and function The engine stops automatically when the driver brakes the vehicle to a standstill, puts the gear into neutral and removes his foot from the clutch. The instrument panel display shows “Start Stop”. The engine immediately restarts when the driver activates the clutch. Automatic check Before the engine stops, the system checks whether undesired effects could be caused in terms of comfort and safety (see following charts). Manual deactivation The Auto Start Stop Function is activated whenever the vehicle is started. The system can be deactivated by means of a button in the central console. The engine is not automatically stopped in the following cases: The engine has not yet reached operating temperature. The battery is heavily discharged. The windscreen is misted with automatic air conditioning function activated. Exterior temperatures ≤ +30C. Exterior temperatures above 300C and air conditioning function activated. Air conditioning system is running and desired temperature has not yet been reached. Activated MAX AC function. Stops after reversing. Driver is not wearing seat belt. The engine does not start automatically (for safety reasons) in the following cases: Driver is not wearing seat belt. Engine compartment is open. Petrol engines. - High Precision Injection (200 injections in the blink of an eye). - Piezo injectors located between the valves. - Lean burn: more air, less fuel. - Normal burning – 1:14.7 fuel to air mixture. - Lean burning – 1:34 fuel to air mixture. BMW 116i (115 hp) - remains unchanged, 116i will be re-launched in September 2007 with a new 90 kW (122 hp) engine and BMW EfficientDynamics. BMW 118i (143 hp) - new engine offers 10 kW (14 hp) more power, while consuming 1.4 litres less. The engine comes with an aluminium engine block and fully automatic Bi-VANOS camshaft timing for an improved power curve and smoother running engine. BMW 120i (170 hp) - improved power-to-weight ratio, developing an extra 15 kW (20 hp). Combined with BMW EfficientDynamics, it offers exceptional performance and unrivalled fuel consumption levels (6.4 l/100 km in standard EU test), far outstripping the competition in terms of both performance and economy. BMW 130i (265 hp) - The largest engine in the BMW 1 Series range features VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control in place of High Precision Injection. Combined with the vehicle’s low overall weight, the 195 kW (265 hp) 6-cylinder engine delivers breathtaking results, yet despite this, the BMW 130i was found to be the most fuel-efficient car in a comparison carried out by German car magazine “AutoBild” (issue 43/2006). Third - generation common rail injection, the BMW 118d offers more power and enhanced fuel economy. It is fitted with a particle filter as standard, and is now available with automatic transmission. BMW 120d (177 hp) - The BMW 120d also contains the new aluminium engine block, reducing weight by 20 kg compared to its predecessor. Increased its power by 10 kW (14 hp), while the latest common rail technology and combustion chamber and load change optimization have considerably reduced fuel consumption.
