Place: Michael Schwartz Center / MSC 177 Contact: [email protected] Office/Hours: Music & Speech Bld. # D-108 (By appointment only) Course Objective – Exposure to the diversity of musical cultures from around the world, Learn to understand & appreciate some universal elements of various types of music, while developing the ability to recognize & to identify selected music from different places, becoming open-minded toward cultural diversity & seeking to make music a positive force for mankind. Recommended Textbook - Miller, Terry E. and Andrew Shahriari World Music: A Global Journey The book comes with 2 CDs, essential for the listening part of the exams. Teaching Style - A combination of lectures, demonstrations, power-point presentations. Some audio-visual materials outside textbook will be used.
