Strategic Human Resources Management Chapter Questions Environmental change can have a profound effect on HR policy. (1) List the nine important challenges faced by HR professionals. (2) Identify which one is the most important to you. Explain. Nine important challenges faced by HR professionals are maintaining a competitive advantage, reinforcing overall business strategy, avoiding excessive concentration on day to day problems, developing HR strategies suited to unique organizational features, coping with the environment, securing management commitment, translating the strategic plan into action, combining intended and emergent strategies and accommodating change. The most important one to me is developing hr strategies suited to unique organizational features because this is what separates companies from one another. Companies do this by creating a vision for themselves that fit them and the goals that they are trying to achieve. Their history, culture, leadership style, and technology give firms competitive advantages over their opposing competitors. What are three ways that HR policies can affect an organization’s competitive position? Three ways that HR policies effect an organization’s competitive position controlling costs, improving quality and creating distinctive capabilities. In your own words, describe organizational culture. Describe a company’s organizational culture that you would like to work for following graduation.
