Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the concept of solubility and electronegativity. This is done by mixing solutions and observing the colors that appear. The appearance of the colors demonstrates which solution is more electronegative than the other. Procedure The first part of the experiment consisted of adding hexane to NaI in a test-tube to test out its solubility. After, the data was shared with the rest of the class. Part two of the experiment consisted of mixing hexane to I2 in a test tube, then adding Cl and observing the mixture to see which is more electronegative than the other. Data Table 1.
