Unformatted text preview: HW 5 CHENG GONG 2012/3/7 1. Explore the data In this part, for 21 choices, the travelers only choose one of them. Therefore, I put the rows of chosen together to do some analysis. This is the collapse the multiple rows for each traveler into a single row. 1) We have 6 types of zones, they are: 1. rural 2. developing 3. developed 4. core (regional core area) 5. CBD 6. OBD (Outlying business district) So, I am curious about the choice types of travelers from origin zone to destination (attraction) zone. It is showed in Table 1.1. Table 1.1 Investigated choice types from origin zone to destination zone Origin Zone Type Attraction Zone Type 1 2 3 4 5 6 Sum 1 124 165 39 16 35 120 499 2 60 831 311 205 270 709 2386 3 17 274 237 147 223 323 1221 4 9 120 112 337 354 219 1151 5 2 3 2 7 14 6 34 6 8 73 62 81 66 131 421 Sum 220 1466 763 793 962 1508 5712 Then I divided each cell with the total number of choices (5712) and get Table 1.2. Table 1.2 investigated choice types from origin zone to destination zone (%) Origin Zone Attraction Zone Type Type 1 2 3 4 5 6 Sum 1 2.17% 2.89% 0.68% 0.28% 0.61% 2.10% 8.74% 2 1.05% 14.55% 5.44% 3.59% 4.73% 12.41% 41.77% 3 0.30% 4.80% 4.15% 2.57% 3.90% 5.65% 21.38% 4 0.16% 2.10% 1.96% 5.90% 6.20% 3.83% 20.15% 5 0.04% 0.05% 0.04% 0.12% 0.25% 0.11% 0.60% 6 0.14% 1.28% 1.09% 1.42% 1.16% 2.29% 7.37% Sum 3.85% 25.67% 13.36% 13.88% 16.84% 26.40% 100.00% For origin, 41.77% of travelers come from developing zone which contains almost half of the number. And the type of developed and core almost share the rest part. We notice, the other types, like rural CBD and OBD, especially CBD, only have a very small part. For destination, very few of travelers will go to rural. The developing and OBD attract more than one quarter of travelers. Also, the developing, core and CBD attract more than 10% travelers. Then, I investigate the whole origin and attraction zones. OBD and CBD are the place for travelers to come rather than to go, as we notice, few travelers are from OBD and CBD, but nearly 20% travelers are attracted by OBD and CBD. For rural, it can hardly attract people from any type of zones. Meanwhile, in detail, I notice, the top 2 percentage of transfer come from any type of zones....
