Geography 5 Fall 2011 Final Project and Presentation For this assignment, worth 30% of the Lab grade, you explore the interactions of people and one specific ecosystem, then make an argument about the current human impacts on that ecosystem, and suggest a plan for the future. This is your chance to become an expert on a topic of interest to you, so do an excellent job on it. This assignment has two major components: first, a blog post, which will serve as the collected written and visual (maps, charts, tables, graphs, diagrams, photos) result of your research; second, an oral presentation to your Lab Section on your findings. Once you have chosen a specific ecosystem and identified the location of that ecosystem (e.g. Everglades in FL, grasslands in LA County), start your research so you can address all of the following questions. 1. Identify the spatial scale (global, regional, local) of this ecosystem (or pick one to focus on if it spans more than one scale). 2. What did the ecosystem historically look like? 3. How have people impacted the ecosystem? (Good, Bad, Ugly?) 4. What benefits do people get from the ecosystems? 5.
