MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION SCENARIO 2 Multicultural Education Scenario With America as it is today in every school system there is diversity. I am a teacher at Happy Valley Elementary with a very diverse classroom. I have 21 students’ that consist of different races, and I also have four students that have special needs. When a student comes to my classroom, I feel it is my job as the educator to provide a multicultural education to be effective and benefit my students. Schools have many steps that help a multicultural education to be effective. The steps required are as follows according to J.A.Banks: 1. A multicultural education policy statement sanctions and supports diversity (Banks, 1999). 2. The staff has positive attitudes and expectations toward diverse students (Banks, 1999 ). 3. The school staff reflects ethnic and cultural diversity (Banks, 1999). 4. The curriculum is transformational and action-focused. (Banks, 1999) .5. Parent participation provides a cultural context for teaching and a link with
