EXPLORING HISPANIC AMERICAN CULTURE 2 Exploring Hispanic American Culture In the United States of America there are many different Hispanic groups. Some have similarities but they also have their differences in this such as language, political view, social issues, economic outlook, religious practices, and family conventions. A few of the different Hispanic groups in the United States can be put into the following groups Mexican American, Puerto Ricans, Cubans and Dominicans. When we look at the Mexican Americans they actually take up a good amount of the Hispanic groups in the United States. The Mexican-Americans dominate language is bilingual, which includes Spanish and non-Spanish languages. Their biggest political issue is American citizenship. Many Mexican-Americans cannot vote due to the American citizenship. With that being said when we look at social issues for Mexican Americans we find that discrimination is a huge issue. With the racist organization of our time such as the neo Nazis, white supremacist groups and the nativists groups the Mexicans face a continuing onslaught of discrimination. (Country facts the world is at your fingertips, Marc) Because so many of the Mexican- Americans are here illegally many work in Blue collar occupations, and many work for low wages. On an average the typical Mexican-American worker does not make as much as the average white American. When it comes to religion and family these are things that are held high to the Mexican Americans. They are very involved in family life as well as in religion. Most of them follow Roman Catholicism and are ardent believers. (Country facts the world is at your fingertips, Marc) As for Mexicans and their family ties they are very strong. They love to take care of their family and love to socialize among vast extended family. (Country facts the world is at your fingertips, Marc)
