Lecture: The lectures for this course are very important. I will cover the critical areas of the material from the book. Although attendance will not be checked, it will be a major disadvantage to miss lecture. During lecture, please make sure your cell phones are shut off. No text messaging, listening to iPod’s, etc. NO LAPTOPS are permitted. Taking notes in organic chemistry is not feasible on most computers. Therefore, an open computer indicates that you are doing something other than giving your full attention to the lecture. If you have a special situation, please check with me before lecture. Also, I will not tolerate talking during lecture unless I ask you a question. Not only is this rude, but it is distracting to me and to others around you who are trying to listen. Finally, if you are too tired to stay awake during lecture, stay home in bed . It is very uncomfortable trying to sleep in the lecture room desks and besides, you may not enjoy having everyone else know that you were asleep when I stop lecture to awaken you, which I will.
