George Fortes [email protected] TEXT: Greenspan’s Basic and Clinical Endocrinology, 8th Ed., by Gardner& Shoback, Lange, 2007. Basic and Clinical Endocrinology, 7th Ed., by F. Greenspan & D. Gardner, Lange, 2003 can be used. The above texts, together with Silverthorn’s Human Physiology (from which certain Figures will be shown during lectures) are on Reserve at the Biomedical Library. Greenspan’s 8 th ed. is available on-line, free of charge, to UCSD students. NOTE: This is a purely lecture based course, therefore, students are responsible only for the material presented in lecture. The textbooks should be used as a reference and suppelement to the lecture material. Ch. 8 Ch. 9 9, 10 Adrenal Cortex Ch. 9 & Ch. 10 Ch. 10 & Ch. 11 10 Adrenal Medulla Ch. 11 Ch. 12 THURSDAY, MARCH 18 FINAL EXAM 11:30 am - 2:30 pm EXAMS AND GRADES: The grade for the course will be computed from the midterm exam (40%) and the comprehensive final exam (60%) scores. The exams will consist of short-answer or multiple-choice questions and problems and will cover material from lectures and from the assigned readings. The midterm exam IS NOT optional. No rescheduling of Midterm or Final Exams will be allowed. NOTE: Although the midterm exam must be taken in order to pass the course, the midterm cannot detract from the student’s final grade. The midterm can only boost your grade; so, if you do not do well on the midterm, do not despair! However, you must show improvement on the final exam in order to ensure

OFFICE HOURS: Dr. Fortes will meet with students immediately after class outside PCNYH 106 or by appointment. SECTIONS: Discussion sections will start the second week of classes. TA assignments and office hours will be announced in class by the end of the first week. Attendance to sections is optional. Choose the section that fits best in your schedule, or shop around for the section you like best. The sections will present problems and questions to review and clarify lecture material. PODCASTS: Lectures are available at Podcast.ucsd.edu. This should not substitute attending lecture. WEB SITE: A web site for the course is available. The URL is: webCT.ucsd.edu. Registered students may login using your ucsd e-mail login and password. The web site contains additional information, old exams, information that TAs add, including problems, notes, reviews, etc., and is frequently updated.
