Week 7 Handout Pvrana@ucsd.edu Pregnancy: hCG – Stimulates corpus luteum to maintin the corpus luteum  Increases the secretion of estrogen and progesterone Peaks during the first trimester Pregnancy lasts approx 270 days High levels of progesterone and estrogen lead to nausea fatigue vomiting and increase  body temp Fetal androgens DHEA sulfate:  Turns into DHEA via a sulfatase in the placenta  DHEA goes to become Androstene dione which can be conveted into testosterone Remember that androstene dione and testosterone can be converted to estradiol,  estrone, and estriol via an aromatase hPL- human placential lactogen similar to GH and PRL causes Inc Blood Glucose, Inc Inuslin, Inc Lipolysis, dec Insulin sensitivity This may cause diabetes mellentus which will diassapear after preganancy  exponentially increass throughout pregrancy Relaxin Inhibits contraction of myometrium
