ANSI 1124B - Writing Assignment #3 – Chapter 15 1. Understand market coordination and vertical integration in the animal industries: Market coordination and vertical coordination are the basic organizational structures of animal production, from producers to consumers. 2. Define Vertical Integration : vertical integration is the control of two adjacent stages in the vertical marketing channel from producers to consumers. The two primary stages of vertical integration are contract integration and owner integration. Vertical coordination is the process of organizing the flow of products from producer to consumer, whereas vertical integration is the control of the two adjacent stages in the vertical marketing channel. 3. What is the current state of vertical coordination and integration in the beef, swine, and poultry industries ? The poultry industry has essentially completely vertically integrated, but the pork industry has not integrated as completely. For beef, declining beef demand, packer concentration, and packer-controlled supplies have raised questions about whether or not vertical integration is desirable or possible.
