Ethical Decisions Nicole Ureste-Valenzuela California Baptist University It can be very hard sometimes in many careers or professions to remember that there is a code of ethics that has to be followed even when you have been working there for a substantial amount of time. We tend to grow close to people we work with and sometimes we even form personal relationships with them. However, it is still extremely important that you make sure you are following the code of ethics no matter how comfortable you may be. Even once you have been there longer than anyone else there may still be people who are not comfortable with how close you are with other employees. This paper will discuss the 7 steps of “A Practitioners Guide to Ethical Decision Making” as well as “The American Counseling Associations Ethical Code.” In this ethical dilemma Tony as the professional counselor should have been the first of the men to set up limits as to the friendship between Randy and himself. Though everything he has been working on with Randy over the last year; depression, distorted thoughts and his distorted core beliefs has benefited Randy greatly, the fact that they are close friends now and not sticking to their original treatment goals can be hurtful to Randy in the long run. It seems as if the closer they get the less Randy is actually spending his time in therapy but instead speaking to Tony on a more personal level away from the office.
