MESSAGE FROM MARS: HOW TO BE A GOOD BOYFRIEND Matthew Stefanson  Which label is important in a relationship? Guys think that being a good boyfriend means a lot of grand gestures and overt romance, but this is a false idea.  Good behaviour is a relative thing, depending on the type of  relationship you're in and the preferences of your lady.  Grand romantic gestures may make some women swoon, but they'll also make other women nauseous just as powerfully  and effectively.  Because this area is so fraught with vagaries and half-truths, we're going to spend some time highlighting the behaviours that actually do make you a good  boyfriend.  The things that actually net you brownie points and show that you're fulfilling your job well enough to be considered a good boyfriend.  If you go over to Sarah's  column,  View From Venus , she'll be listing off a few of the  traits of a good girlfriend . Labels Are Good I can understand the urge to throw off the shackles of old ways of thinking, to get rid of the outdated protocols of the past and set yourself free from bondage, but not admitting  that the girl you're seeing is your girlfriend isn't an issue of liberty.  You're not fighting apartheid; you're just creating unnecessary hostility and hesitation by refusing to make a
