Geography 1840 Chris Muckle 14122628 4/10/11 Exercise 2: Repeat Photography Between the years of 1907 to 2011 there have been drastic changes in the urban landscape of downtown Columbia. In the century since 1907 the changes in human civilization have been more expansive than any other century in history. There are several changes evident in these two photographs, one of which has made the largest impact in the photos. That is the advent of the automobile. In the historical photo, there is a horse drawn carriage parked outside the building to the left. In the modern photograph this carriage is contrasted by a handful of cars either driving by or parked along the seemingly expanded roadways. It does appear that the roads have had extensive pavement changes since the early 1900’s, which shows a shift in technology in roadway engineering as well. Also, as opposed to there being one like at the corner of the road in 1907, there are at least 10 street lights visible as well as stoplights which have also been added because of
