Discussion Exercise #3 Winter 2012 Name: Sadhvi Saxena Section: 0103 Probability 1. List here – the main issues that were discussed and how you decided to conduct the study. The way we chose the pasta was not random because they were not replaced, and it didn’t necessarily cover the entire population. However, it was unbiased since we closed our eyes while choosing the pieces of pasta, and the colors were independent of one another. Also, the bag needed to be shaken after each person chooses, which affects the randomness. The sample can’t be truly random because it was more of a judgment sample—people have different sized hands, people chose them back different ways, the pasta was not replaced, and there will always be that element of judgment. Since we are estimating the probability empirically , we now need to generate a cumulative frequency histogram of the data. Do Graph. 3.
