Uncertainty Avoidance- the rejection of risk Avoidance in a culture is a measure of how willing people are to take risks Uncertainty avoidance- negative measure of risk acceptance Countries scoring high on uncertainty avoidance will be far more reliant on traditional methods and long accepted practices i. Investments U.S. low uncertainty avoidance- dynamic investment markets High uncertainty avoidance- more conservative decisions (Japan) ii. Social Interaction Low uncertainty avoidance- new social relationships and business relationships are easily created 2. Power Distance- the Psychological and Social Distance between Superiors and Subordinates Higher power distance- positions are significant and drastically different Lower power distance- people see each employee as equals i. Employer/Employee Relations- Lower-open communication Higher- hierarchical systems ii. People to Government Relations
