Sandy Koufax Yom Kippur: Yom Kippur 1965: World Series  Sandy Koufax decided not to pitch in the World Series  Didn’t necessarily refuse to pitch because of the holiday rather because he wanted to  make a statement about Judaism. Connects to polythetic definition: He is Jewish but he didn’t go to shul on Yom Kippur. Refusal to play a political act. He isn’t observant but he decides not to play anyway. Public figure standing up and making a huge statement. This Kosher restaurant brought in un-kosher duck and passed it off as Kosher Caused an uproar. Chinese food is “safe treyf ” One or more elements that connects it to Kosher food. No milk products- Milk and meat cannot be served together in kosher food. Used a lot of the same ingredients that Eastern- European Jews used. Chinese food as cosmopolitan.
