17:44 2TP(2 nd  temple period) Overview- Ca.515 BCE-70 CE Why these dates? 515 BCE- When the second temple was rebuilt. 70 CE- Second temple was destroyed  (KNOW FOR MIDTERM) The utopia that never was. People with different theological interpretations. Money that goes to the temple. Power corrupts Alexander the Great Amasses lots of money and land Should never die Alexander the Great conquers biblical land Then dies- brings over Greek religion with him. Hellenism Speaking Greek/ acting Greek Culture comes with it. In 2 nd  century BCE, this begins to be perceived as a problem. 1 Maccabees 1:11-15: They get annoyed with what is happening in the temple. Authors are unhappy with Greek influence Take issue with what is happening in the temple. They joined the gentiles and abandoned the holy covenant and disregarded  circumcision. What Changed?
