Antidepressants 2 Abstract During the research phase of this paper, this researcher came to find some stunning information. Depression is frequently underdiagnosed, and the role of tricyclic antidepressants for some sort of treatment is controversial for the adolescent age group. Studies have failed to show significant benefits, yet some doctors still think that it still useful as a therapeutic cure in some patients. The situation is complicated by many side effects of the drug, but this will be discussed in the remainder of this paper.

Antidepressants 3 Antidepressants and Adolescents Depression is a widely talked about subject these days. Every day one sees commercials for some sort of miracle antidepressant. Usually they are for adults, but what of the children and adolescents? They are still prone to depression, yet nobody seems to think this, hence why depression is frequently diagnosed between six and eighteen years old. In fact, it is under diagnosed in five percent adolescents and two percent of younger children (American Family Physician, n.d.). What Are Antidepressants? Antidepressants are medicines used to help people who have depression. Most people can achieve a good recovery from depression with these. Antidepressant drugs are not happy pills, and they are not a panacea. They are prescription only drugs that come with risks as well as benefits, and should only ever be taken under a doctor’s supervision. They are, however, one depression treatment option. Taking medications for depression is not a sign of personal weakness, and there is good evidence
