Unformatted text preview: William Maio Science Technology and Society David Hess TA-Brandon Brain Computer Interface now and beyond BCI, Brain Computer Interface, technology has granted locked-in/ paralyzed patients the ability to control with their thoughts.BCI is a system that reads brain waves using a detection device attached to users brain, and translate the data collected into programs to practical usage such as controlling a cursor or a robotic arm. In other field, relating to brain, Researchers have also came up with the technology to trigger neurons in the brain to stimulate emotions that were lost with dysfunctional neurons. 1 Teodore Berger from USC takes the idea further and hopes to replace defected neurons in the brain with computer chips 2 Although, BCI systems are currently targeted for patients, but in the future, BCI systems would be targeted towards other fields such as entertainment, personal use or even revolutionize the use of human brain.
