Michael Chelala Professor Kim Cognition PSYU446 Homework #2 1) “Breaking the Habit” by Linkin Park. The real lyrics were:   I don't want to be the one the battles always choose . But they were misheard as:   I don't want to be the one to battle all  these shoes. 2) The failure of bottom up processing in this case is mishearing the word “choose” as the  word “shoes”.  The probable cause of this is that the two words rhyme.

Unformatted text preview: 3) If we assume top down processing, I would guess that the person who misheard these lyrics was female, or at the very least owned a large number of shoes. Maybe they just went on a shopping spree and bought a bunch of new shoes. Regardless, shoes were probably on the persons mind which led to the miss association of the word “choose” with the word “shoes”....
