7-2 Milestone Three: Draft of External Communication 2 External Communication Medium(s): I have identified eight contributing factors to my two overall issues that need to be address, however only three of the contributing factors need to be address externally. The three contributing factors that need to be address externally are as follows: (1) Poor product management, (2) Poor recruitment of senior level software leaders, and (3) Poor marketing management. Nevertheless, since the open letter sent anonymously to RIM’s co-CEOs was publicly published it is important that RIM also makes a public communication to address the letter. The medium(s) needed to address poor product management and poor marketing management is an external advertisement for consumer surveys and focus groups. This advertisement can be posted on the organization’s website, social media platforms, and consumer surveys and focus group platforms. Focus groups and consumer surveys will allow RIM to gather people’s opinions, ideas, suggestions, and reactions on their products within a short period of time to help identify its best target market (Why are focus groups used?, n.d.). By gathering this type of insight RIM can gather the much-needed information for effective product development and marketing. Additionally, the medium(s) needed to address the poor recruitment of senior level software leaders is an internal and external job positing advertisement for quality senior level software leaders. This advertisement can be posted on the organization’s job portal, LinkedIn account, and job posting platforms. By using these types of communication mediums allows RIM to gain insight on how to better position regain its position as an industry leader. Audience: The target audience for this communication are the stakeholders of RIM. Since stakeholders are individuals that can affect or be affected by the organization action can draw a
7-2 Milestone Three: Draft of External Communication 3 wide range of audience. This wide range of audience may differ in terms of demographics, backgrounds, and cultures. Therefore, their interpretation of the message may differ. Additionally, stakeholders make rapid judgments and are skeptical, so it is important to using words, phrases, and sentences that help achieve transparency objectivity while using a friendly tone (Cardon, 2016, p. # BC 26). Furthermore, it is also important to keep in mind that often stakeholders realize that the message contains the company’s version of reality, and they may perceive RIM’s version as skewed toward the organization own interests rather than theirs (Cardon, 2016, p.# BC 26).
