Group 1: Joshua Ang, Jacob Dummeldinger, LaResia Golden, Bree Maron, Jody-Lee Norman West African and Haitian Vodou As a means to study the effects of West African music on the Americas, we now plan to investigate and research the musical traditions of Haitian and West African Vodou, particularly focusing on that of the Ewe and Yoruba speaking people. We intend on finding out how West African Vodou can be seen in its counterpart in the New World. We’ve studied a little of this through Elikem’s lectures on Ewe traditional music and dance rituals. Our project will be presented in the form of a PowerPoint with the incorporation of video, audio and possible interviews. We might try and use pre-existing Youtube videos as examples of dance and music. Our organization of the PowerPoint will be with interlocking parts on the music of West African and Haitian Vodou, as to make comparing and contrasting easier.
