Purpose of Experiment The purpose of this experiment is to fully understand the chemistry behind precipitation, ions, and how to remove them from solutions. We will observe different solutions as precipitates form to check whether or not certain ions were present or not, and then cross- reference these results with a test solution. Experimental Procedure Data ID Code for Cation Test Sample: 4 Part 1: Sample Prep Observations Description of initial standard cation solution: Green, clear Description of test sample solution: Green, clear Part 2: Separation of Pb 2+ Goals: formation of soluble chloride complex [FeCl 4 ] - Precip of insoluble chloride PbCl 2 Observations Description of initial standard cation solution: Green, cloudy Description of test sample solution: Green, clear Part 3: Separation of Fe 3+ Goals: Formation of soluble ammonium complex [Cu(NH 3 )] 2+ Precipitation of insoluble hydroxides Fe(OH) 3 & Al(OH) 3 Formation of soluble hydroxide complex [Al(OH) 4 ] - Observations

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
