The first thing that came to mind was “It was a gift from France” as commemoration of the friendship between France and the United States. Since It was given to us July 4th, 1884, I always had just assumed it was a good gesture as an ally to celebrate our independence, and liberties that had been gained. After reading the material included in this week’s module, I learned that there was more to the story. There could easily betwo perspectives to the gifting of the SOL.
