Communists typically led them, but the goals were to prevent evictions of poor people and pressure the relief commission to help evicted peoples find new homes, contact the proper authorities fi gas/water was turned off, and provide clothing for the unemployed. Marched on relief headquarters to demand food and clothing and provided defense for unemployed people arrested for protesting, attending union meetings, and participating in hunger marches.
